CrossFit Games 2021: What can you expect?

The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Other than the traditional CrossFit Games, events for women will be held. We have all heard about the women's competition, the Pegboard contest, the Cutting system, and Reebok's equipment, but do you know what to expect? Keep reading to find the answer! The competition for women

The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall and Eramo O'Connell finished second and third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. Nine athletes are represented in the field, including a young Australian powerhouse who won last year's competition. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. CrossFit must also answer the question of how it will adjust the points following cuts. The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.

This year's CrossFit Games Field includes 236 athletes. This is the largest field in its history. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. The top thirty athletes then compete in a sprint team to determine the top 10. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok has announced new sports shoes, clothing, and other equipment for the CrossFit Games. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's contract with Reebok will expire at the end 2020. The Games will no longer have a title sponsor. Reebok has been sponsoring the Games for over a decade and now it is clear that its involvement will be declining. Reebok won't be funding the Games' prize fund, but will continue making all athletic apparel and equipment worn athletes by, including the Reebok gear. However, the company will no longer refer to itself as the "Reebok CrossFit Games" as it does now.
